Global Wellness Day - June 8th

What the heck is global wellness? According to the website, the intent is for " (through) our individual spheres, we possess the extraordinary power to effect transformative change" (Global Wellness Day – Global Wellness Day is an entirely not-for-profit day, a social project created by volunteers who are dedicated to living well). This theory of affecting change through individual's journey to transform will create waves that help heal our collective. As we grow and heal, seven generations back and seven generations forward heal as well (What is the Seventh Generation Principle? (ictinc.ca).

The theme for this year's celebration on June 8th is Magenta Nature (#magentanature). This is an area close to my heart because I believe that much of the trouble and confusion in our lives is because of a disconnect with our natural world. As I mentioned in my article on meditation, when I am in nature, it helps to keep me in the present moment. In our societies, we may have few opportunities to connect with nature. As technology takes over our means of communication, it is so important to step away from our phones or laptops and retreat into the quiet and peace of nature. We are, after all, animals, affected by the tides of the moon, etc. We haven't been very good at respecting nature, so this is also a great opportunity to reflect on our values. From the Global Wellness website "To us, nature is not just a place; it’s an experience that nurtures physical, mental, and spiritual health". The Japanese exercise known as forest bathing is a technique of reconnecting with trees and nature as a way to keep good mental and physical health and respect for our natural world.
