Cold temperatures and wind outside and dry heating inside can really affect skin health during the winter months. There are many natural ingredients that you can use to protect and nourish your skin-and some can be found in your own kitchen! Here are some examples:
Shea butter deeply hydrates and protects the skin barrier. Rich in vitamins A and E, which promote healing. You can apply as a moisturizer for the face, lips, or hands.
Coconut oil locks in moisture, soothes dry, cracked skin, and reduces redness. You can use it as a body moisturizer or as a gentle makeup remover.
Aloe vera hydrates and soothes irritated skin while reducing redness and inflammation. Apply pure aloe gel as a lightweight moisturizer or mix it into your skincare routine. This is also useful to soothe windburn.
Honey is a natural humectant that attracts moisture to the skin. Its antibacterial properties help soothe and heal. Try it as a face mask or add a small amount to your moisturizer.
Avocado is rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and antioxidants that nourish dry skin. You can mash into a paste for a DIY face mask or mix with olive oil for a moisturizing treatment
Oatmeal calms irritation and itchiness while providing gentle exfoliation. Add colloidal oatmeal to a warm bath or use it as an ingredient in a soothing face mask. This is also great for diaper rash
Jojoba mimics skin's natural sebum, making it ideal for hydration without clogging pores. Apply a few drops directly to your skin or mix into your moisturizer. You can also use it as a soap-free cleanser
Rosehip Oil is packed with vitamin C and fatty acids to rejuvenate and repair dry or damaged skin. Use a few drops on your face or mix into a facial serum. It is also good for skin repair and scarring.
Almond Oil is lightweight and rich in vitamin E, which helps heal dry, flaky skin. Apply as a body oil after a shower or mix into your lotion.
Cucumber hydrates and cools while reducing puffiness and irritation. Place chilled cucumber slices on your face or blend into a mask. It also soothes tired eyes when placed on lids.
