Making toothpaste at home is easy and allows you to customize the flavor and ingredients to suit your taste! Here's a basic recipe using three ingredients to get you started:

Homemade Toothpaste Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp Baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut oil
  • 5-10 drops Essential oil (diluted in the coconut oil) For flavor and added benefits (e.g., peppermint for freshness, tea tree for antibacterial properties)

Baking soda: acts as a mild abrasive to clean teeth and neutralize acids.

Coconut oil: provides a creamy texture and has antimicrobial properties.

Essential oils: for flavor and added benefits (e.g., peppermint for freshness, tea tree for antibacterial properties)

Optional:

1 tsp Xylitol powder: a natural sweetener that also helps prevent cavities.

1 tsp Calcium carbonate powder: adds mineral support for stronger teeth.

1 tsp. Bentonite clay: detoxifying and adds a smooth texture.

Instructions:

  • Mix the dry ingredients (baking soda, calcium carbonate, and bentonite clay) in a small bowl.
  • Add essential oils to coconut oil and stir until the mixture becomes a paste. Adjust the consistency by adding more oil or dry ingredients as needed.
  • Add xylitol, mixing thoroughly.
  • Store the toothpaste in a small glass jar with a lid.

How to Use:

  • Scoop a small amount with a clean spoon or applicator and brush as usual.
  • Avoid dipping your toothbrush directly into the jar to keep it hygienic.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality, food-grade ingredients for safety.
  • Experiment with essential oil combinations like peppermint + cinnamon or orange + clove for unique flavors.
  • Store in a cool place; coconut oil may liquefy in warm temperatures.
